The World of Natural Wine: A brief intro to natural wines, pet' nat' and more

Natural wine has quickly become one of our go-to choices, when we're looking for something a little bit different to drink. As someone who loves trying new and interesting flavors, natural wine has definitely caught our attention.

But what exactly is natural wine?

Natural wine is made from grapes that are grown organically or biodynamically, and is produced with minimal intervention from the winemaker. This means that the grapes are allowed to express their true flavors, rather than being manipulated through the use of additives or other techniques.

One of the things, that we love about natural wine is that each bottle is truly unique. Because the grapes are grown in their natural environment and the wine is produced with minimal intervention, the flavors and aromas of each bottle can vary greatly. This means that every time I open a bottle of natural wine, I'm in for a bit of a surprise.

Another reason we enjoy natural wine is the sense of connection it gives us to the land and the community who grew the grapes. Many natural winemakers are small, independent producers - like  Sjask in Aarhus, Denmark - who are deeply connected to their land and take great pride in their work. Drinking natural wine allows me to support these producers and feel like I'm making a more sustainable choice.

One of our favorite natural wines is a aronia berry and aroma apple based wild fermented pet’ nat’ from a small danish producer in Aarhus, Denmark. The wine has a beautiful, grounded red color and aromas of red fruit plucked in the late summer. On the palate, it's smooth and fresh. You will love sipping on this wine while cooking a nice Mediterranean pasta at home or sharing it with friends at a dinner party in the summer.

But it gets even better. Every bottle from Sjask's cellars is made from 100% hand picked apples and berries in the lowland peninsula Djurs in western Denmark, which is known for its hilly terrain and rich generous terroir.

Harder to find but so worth it

If you're interested in trying natural wine for yourself, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, natural wine can be a bit harder to find than traditional wine, as it's produced in smaller quantities. You may need to look for specialty wine shops or online retailers that focus on natural wines. It's also important to keep an open mind and be willing to try different varietals and producers. The flavors of natural wine can be quite different from what you might be used to, but that's honestly part of the fun!

We hope this introduction to natural wine has inspired you to give it a try. Whether you're a wine aficionado or just looking to try something new, we think you'll find that natural wine offers a unique and enjoyable drinking experience.
