BUYER GUIDANCE

Comparing equipment offers beyond the asking price

Two machines with similar titles can represent very different purchases. Build a like-for-like comparison around the job to be done and the equipment’s route into service, then identify the assumptions that still need confirmation.

Compare the configuration first

Check that the machines have the capacity, working dimensions and interfaces required for the same task. Record optional modules, control versions, tooling and accessories. A lower asking price may relate to a less complete configuration.

Keep price and currency together throughout your comparison. Raavare’s price filters compare listings within the currency you select; they do not convert exchange rates.

Separate evidence from assumptions

Record the source of each material detail: a seller’s statement, a document, a photograph or an inspection. Unknown operating hours or an unavailable powered demonstration are uncertainties to resolve, rather than proof of either good or poor condition.

  • Compare documented maintenance and known repair requirements.
  • Establish which components can be supported or replaced.
  • Record inspection limitations and questions still awaiting an answer.

Use the same cost headings for every offer

Create a simple comparison sheet with separate rows for the equipment price, included items, applicable taxes, removal, loading, transport, installation, commissioning and immediate work. Obtain relevant quotes and confirm what each covers.

Do not assume the cheapest listed machine will be the cheapest to put into service. Equally, an expensive offer is not evidence of better condition: assess the equipment and the supporting information.

  • Separate confirmed figures from estimates.
  • Identify the party responsible for each service.
  • Include your site’s readiness, tooling and training needs in the review.

Include the timetable

Availability, inspection access and collection dates can affect whether an otherwise suitable machine meets your project. Check when the seller can release it, how long specialist transport or installation may take, and whether your site can receive it.

Ask for clarification where a collection deadline is firm. Agree responsibility for delays before committing to a purchase.

Close the outstanding questions before committing

Shortlist offers against your actual requirements and send each seller a focused list of unanswered questions. Use appropriately qualified technical and commercial advisers where the purchase warrants it.

A listing price is an asking price, not a verified transaction value. Raavare currently provides a directory and direct seller contact, rather than a valuation service or a guarantee of equipment suitability.
